SDEWES contribution on ionic liquids for CO₂ capture in bubble columns

At the 2026 Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems (SDEWES) in Gran Canaria, Alberto Arici presented an oral contribution on the use of ionic liquids for CO₂ capture, with a particular focus on their application in bubble columns. The work was also published as an archival conference paper.

The contribution connected the physicochemical properties and absorption mechanisms of ionic liquids with bubble hydrodynamics, mass transfer and reactor performance. By examining the available evidence from a bubble-column perspective, the work identified the main limitations of current datasets and models and outlined the challenges that must be addressed for reliable reactor design and scale-up.
