Khaled Sayed Gad is a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano. His field of research is energy system modelling for long-term decarbonisation planning, with particular focus on sector-coupling and the integration of energy-intensive sectors into national transition strategies.
His work is articulated in two macro-areas: developing bottom-up mathematical models to characterise energy demand in end-uses and intermediate infrastructure, producing scientifically grounded evidence to aid decision-making; and assessing the robustness of national decarbonisation strategies across deeply uncertain futures through exploratory modelling and scenario analysis. The methodologies employed mainly rely on bottom-up simulation, energy system optimisation, and decision-making under deep uncertainty.
Khaled contributed to the MOST – National Center for Sustainable Mobility (EU NextGenerationEU, PNRR), supporting scientifically informed energy and transport policies. He is author of peer-reviewed publications in international journals including Energy Strategy Reviews and Energy Reports, and has presented his research at conferences including SDEWES, several IEEE conferences on Energy and Power Engineering, and the Open Energy Modelling Initiative Workshop.
He has contributed to nationally and internationally funded research projects on sustainable mobility and energy transition, collaborated with industry partners on long-term energy scenario modelling, and conducted visiting research periods at partner universities in Italy and abroad focused on uncertainty characterisation in energy system optimisation models. He has also been involved in capacity building activities for researchers and educators across international partner institutions, in Europe and Africa.
