Prof. Giorgio Besagni leads the AURIGA project at the Department of Energy, Politecnico di Milano.

Giorgio Besagni, born in 1988, is an Associate Professor of Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer at Politecnico di Milano. He graduated with honors in Energy Engineering in 2012 and completed his Ph.D. in Energy and Nuclear Science and Technology in 2016. After post-doctoral activities at Politecnico di Milano, he moved in the innovation-center of a private company. In July 2017, in moved as Researcher at RSE. Since February 2021 he was an Assistant Professor at Politecnico di Milano and, in June 2022, he become a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor. Starting from January 2024 he is an Associate Professor at the Department of Energy. Giorgio’s academic journey has been enriched byinternational experiences, including roles as a visiting scholar at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf , Dresden, Germany (2015) and at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, TU/Eindovhen, Netherlands (2019). Giorgio is author of more than 130 publications among international journals, book chapters and conference proceedings. He is editor for Applied Thermal Engineering, Journal of Cleaner Production, Renewable Energy, Chemical Engineering Science, Chemical Engineering Research and Design. For four consecutive years (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023) he has been listed in the top 2% of world-wide researchers. His main research areas concern (i) multi-scale experimental and numerical investigations of multiphase flows, (ii) multi-scale experimental and numerical investigation of renewable energy-based technologies to decarbonize the residential sector, (iii) multi-scale modeling of the residential sector.
