Nicolò Varallo is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Energy, Politecnico di Milano. He received his M.Sc. in Energy Engineering in 2022 and his Ph.D. in Energy and Nuclear Science and Technology in 2026.
His research focuses on multiphase flows, combining advanced experimental techniques and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to investigate the complex physics of gas–liquid flows across multiple spatial scales.
He has conducted research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (Germany), contributing to the development and validation of morphology-adaptive CFD models for complex multiphase flows, and at IFP Energies Nouvelles (France), where he worked on CFD simulations of industrial-scale bubble columns.
Since June 2026, he has been a researcher in the AURIGA project, where he performs experimental investigations on the fluid dynamics and mass transfer in bubble columns for CO₂ capture using ionic liquids. His research interests include multiphase fluid dynamics, mass transfer, carbon capture technologies, and advanced modelling techniques for energy and chemical engineering applications.
